How To Take Care Of Your New Born? 1. Breastfeeding The experience of breastfeeding is special for so many reasons- the joyful bonding with your baby and the health benefits for both mother and child. 2. Urine & Stools After the first 72 hrs, a baby should pass urine at least 6 times in 24 hrs. Urine should be in large quantities and transparent. Stool should be golden yellow after the first 72 hrs. Stool frequency is unpredictable – a baby may pass 7-8 times a day or once in 7 days. A baby’s stool may occasionally be green in color, which is normal. 3. Diaper Care Best is the use of cloth diapers. If disposables must be used, then – Use diaper rash cream before use, and after every cleaning. Apply on the entire area in touch with the diaper. Change diapers frequently, especially after the baby passes stool. There is a higher tendency of urinary infection if you leave it on. 4. Baby Bath A baby should be given a bath after the first 24 hrs. Both traditional (baby on lap) and tub bath are fine. Water should be lukewarm; any gentle/mild soap can be used. Oil massage can precede the bath after the baby is 7-10 days old. Wiping the baby dry right after the bath is the most important thing to keep in mind. If the baby has dry skin, baby lotion or cream may be applied as a moisturizer after the bath. 5. Signs of illness A small amount of vomiting, occasional sneezing or cough and hiccups are normal in a baby. But if you encounter any of the below-mentioned signs, then bring your baby immediately to the hospital. If the baby’s skin has turned blue. If the baby is not breathing. When the baby’s skin is deep yellow in color, it might be jaundice. Abnormal movements like fits and rolling-up of eyes. If the baby is not feeding well. If the baby is very lethargic/dull (i.e. sleeps a lot). Do you want to know more about our Pregnancy Wellness Programme or other pregnancy-related services? We are always happy to help you.
